Enda Mills Kiley, April 27, 1919 - January 13, 2009
Former Estes Park resident Enda Kiley died January 13, 2009 in her home in Longmont.
Enda Mills was born April 27, 1919 at Longs Peak, Colorado. Her parents were Enos and Esther Mills. She attended Cheyenne Mountain School in Colorado Springs and Estes Park schools, where she was on the girl’s basketball team, graduating in 1937, in a class of 13 students.
She went on to Colorado Women’s College, Colorado University, where she was on the ski team and to Pomona in California.
Enda went to work for American Airlines and took flying lessons. She was close to receiving her pilot’s license until it was learned she was blind in one eye, due to a childhood accident. She joined the Navy W.A.V.E.S. in World War II and was stationed in Rhode Island, where she met her husband to be.
She married Robert Henry Bremer Kiley on February 27, 1946, and moved to Denver where they had four children. Enda worked as a secretary in her husband’s law office, for the Colorado Mountain Club and AAA. She attended the University of Denver and received her Masters Degree in Education.
The family moved back to Estes Park in 1966. Enda had been politically, socially, environmentally and spiritually active throughout her long life. She loved horses, flying, music, laughter, nature and the desert. Her smile was a mile wide when she was given the opportunity to fly in a helicopter above the Tahosa Valley and around Longs Peak.
She is survived by her cousin, Patricia Washburn of Estes Park, and her three children, Michael Kiley (Danielle) of Evergreen, Patrick Kiley of Longmont and Elizabeth Mills of Estes Park. She had three grandchildren, Michael Kiley II, (Donna), of Denver, Christopher Kiley of Denver and Eryn Mills of Estes Park. Enda had two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest daughter Kathleen and her husband, Bob.
The family would like to gratefully thank all of her wonderful friends who have lovingly, selflessly and tirelessly assisted in her care for many years. We extend the same thanks to the Longmont Regent for making her last months so comfortable, cared for and embraced with love.
Donations may be made to the Allenspark Fire Department. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 880 MacGregor Avenue, Estes Park, CO.
